I just thought I would share a little of what I have been squeezing into my days.
This is me at around 4 months old or so.  My Aunt Joyce holding me and
my Grandma Iva in the background (making sure she is holding me right).

I have been going through and scanning slides that my parents have taken over the years.
I have been working on this for a  few days now.  I am only 1/8th of my way through all of them.
My dad has slides back to
the fifties.  Notice the next one...

This one is one of my favorites so far.  This is my Mom and Dad around 1958 or so.
I think it is taken at Lake Michigan.  What a cool photo eh?!
Love this one!!
Two little love birds.  They have been married for 56 years!  Nice job Mom and Dad!

How about this beauty!  I think this is about 1961 or so.
Hawaii.  Fun stuff!

God is amazing and wonderful!  Amen!
This year has been such a huge year for me and my spiritual growth.  Becoming closer to Jesus and my walk with him.  It is so incredible!  It has always been my desire to have a deeper understanding of The Word of God.  I feel this year that I am finally starting that profound journey.  It is so wonderful and I am grateful to so many.
Number one, to God for giving me life.  And to Jesus for dying on the cross for our sins, and being such a loving, caring , forgiving Lord.

I am thankful for my parents for all that they have done for me.  They brought me up in a Godly home.
I know they will be reading this, so thank you M & D for always putting God first and then your family.  Thank you Mom for all those thankless meals you fixed us.  And all the thousands of piles of laundry you selflessly washed, and all the unconditional love that was shown.  Thank you Dad for taking care of us and for all the long hours driving us to horse shows and attending all our school sport functions.  Thank you for all of your love and guidance.  Parenting can be a thankless job, but so rewarding.  We are serving God when we serve our families.  Thank you for being such great role models in that field.  I love you both dearly.

Jesus said:
"I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me."

Autumn is falling upon us.
Wow!  October already?!  Where did September go?
Fabulous fall!  I love fall.  Cooler temps, beautiful trees turning colors, did I say cooler temps?  YEA!  I know, I know, the fall colors are not as spectacular as out in Eastern USA, and other parts of the
world, but we will take it.  If I saw the fall colors in the deciduous parts of the world, I would probably explode!  Such beautiful artwork of our Father up in heaven.  Amen?

This was a painting that I did a couple of years ago and have had it in my private collection.  I just love to admire the leaves this time of the year.
I am like a little kid walking around saving all the turned leaves.  I want to save and press all of them.  Boy, what would I do with all of them?  I already have a quite a collection from over the years.

Hope you all are enjoying Autumn in your neck of the woods!  And collecting some beauties!

I am back!
What a long time between my last blog.  It is nice to be back in the studio.  My youngest just stated pre-k yesterday, and the other two are getting settled with the new school year.  Getting ready for school is a full-time job.  Holy cow!  Getting new clothes picked out, shoes, school supplies!  Tons of school supplies!  Anyway, I am happy to say that all this is done and I can take a few hours a day now for my other creative side.

I LOVE, LOVE seahorses!  And I have been wanting to paint one.  They are so enchanting and fascinating!
Here is a little trivia for you.  Did you know that the male seahorse carries the babies?   Cool huh!  They are the only animal in the whole animal kingdom that does so.  They don't have teeth or stomachs.  Their digestion process is so quick they  need to constantly eat to survive.  They can eat 3000-4000 brine shrimp in one day!
Seahorses mate for life, and  usually under a full moon, and utter musical sounds while mating.  Wow, those male seahorses and awesome.  They carry the babies and they are romantic!

It has been awhile since my last blog.  Just trying to enjoy my kids over summer break and there is not a whole lot of time to paint.  But, I am back in the studio excited to paint!  Feels good!

My Paypal button was not working.  Thanks to my dear friend, Lauie Pace, she detected the problem and helped me fix it...yea!!  Thank you Laurie.  So, it is now working like it should and all is well.

I am doing a series of abstract birds.  This is the second  in the series.  The first has been sold.

Ravens are one of the smartest birds there is.  Apparently, creative scientists are always coming up with ways to challenge their problem solving skills.  Our ravens here in Colorado are quite huge.   Cool birds, they are.

Happy hot days!

Summer is here!  I am back in the studio tonight trying to catch  up from my show in Fort Collins and just keeping up with my kids and all the summer activities!  The Festoonery Show went well.  Thank you all that came and showed your interest and support!  Thank you to my parents that drove down from the mountains to support my art!  It was a fun day in the sun.

This is a new little mini painting I did this month.  Showing off our brilliant blue skies here in Colorado!

I am also posting a few pics from our train trip on the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad.  It was a wonderful tour and the scenery, just gorgeous!

This was the train depot in Chama, New Mexico where we started our
train trip to Osier, CO and back.

My middle son/train-lover, Doltry and friend.

More fantastic views from the train.

Very nice town!  Lots of things to do there and the people were
very nice.

Hello, hello...I am back from a busy couple of weeks.  My family and I went on our vacation to Pagosa Springs, Colorado the weekend before.  It was a beautiful trip!  We also took a train trip on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.  It was very cool!  I got some great pictures, but I still need to download them.  I will get a few posted soon.

I have been busy since we got back getting ready for another show with a group of my creative, talented friends.  We call our group's gathering, Festoonery!  We are going to be participating this Saturday, for all you locals, at The French Nest Open-Air Market at the Civic Center Park in Fort Collins from 9-3.  Come down and find us!
Visit us at www.festoonery.yolasite.com.  Our Festoonery group consists of fiber art, potters, jewelry, and my watercolors and my handmade cards from prints of my originals.  At this time, the only place to purchase my handmade cards is at Moxie Java in Fort Collins, on Harmony and Corbitt.

For directions and more info on The French Nest Market, vistit:  www.thefrenchnestmarket.com.

Hope to see you locals there!  Gotta go get painting!  Happy weekend!

Happy Memorial weekend!   Thank you to those that are serving our country in the armed forces.  We pray for your safety and well being.  We remember those brave hearts that have served and lost their lives for our great nation.  And we remember all the other loved ones in our lives that have passed on to a better place.  We miss you and honor you this Memorial Day.

Hopefully along with all the BBQ's, camping or whatever else happening this weekend, we remember the real  reason for Memorial Day.  Take a minute to think about those we have lost, and ponder the great memories in our hearts and share them with others.  Then maybe top it off with a good prayer.  God is always a good note to end on.  Amen?  The beginning and the end!
God Bless.

We are getting a wonderful rainstorm tonight.  I love the thunder and lightening and the smell of fresh rain.  A hint of Mother Nature's boundless freedom.   It is even better from the safety of our home.  It reminds me to thank God for our home and many blessings.

I remember when my oldest son, Thom was little, we lived in Elizabeth, CO and our house was up on a big hill and we used to watch the big storms roll in off the mountains.  We had a full few of the Rocky Mountain ranges west of the Denver area.  It was a great place for the lightening shows and to listen to all the rumbles and strikes.
I used to make a big deal about it and say, "Wow Thom, look at that, how cool was that one!"  I was trying to make it fun and exciting so he wouldn't be afraid of the thunder.  And it worked!  After he started watching the storms with me and seeing the beauty in them, he wasn't afraid of the thunder.  All my kids love the thunderstorms.   Lets just pray no tornadoes to follow any of them!

And I know the trees, plants, flower, farmers and ranchers are thanking
God for the rain here in this part of colorful Colorado!

Speaking of blessings...ice cream is right up there most would agree.  This is no slacker cone!  Enjoy!

I am having fun planting trees and flowers also.  This time of year is full of new beginnings.  In more ways than one.  God is good!

A lot of other flowers have to be grouped together.  But a sunflower, is different.  They seem to have a mind of their own.  You always see them in gardens, big and tall like a single tower.  They are like the overseers of the garden.  The guard of the yard you could say.  Or...I could be looking to deeply.
Either way, sunflowers are one of my favorites.  They are a stellar beauty.
Happy day!  Thank you for visiting my blog.

Happy Easter!  I just finished this painting last night.  I named it "Stop and Smell" because I think we all need to be reminded to slow down and take in all that we have and be thankful each and everyday.  I try to stop and smell the roses and I thank God for my many blessings.

I painted this one awhile ago and it has been in my private collection.  Now, I am putting it out there.  I love trees!  The bigger the better. And yes, I admit, I hug trees...and I talk to them...a little.  Some of them seem to have personalities.  Like these two oldies.  Imagine the years they have seen and the stories they could tell.  Carry on boys!

Spring has "sprung" more things to do!  Holy goodness I have been busy.  How about you?  One thing I did today was rake the front yard.  Getting all that dead grass up.  It was really nice outside.  Nothing like some good honest hard work to make you feel alive!  I miss that type of labor work.  I actually miss cleaning stalls as a kid growing up.  My very first job was mucking stalls and grooming horses at our neighbors Arabian training and boarding facility.  I would ride my  horse across the open fields to and from work.  Pretty cool I thought!  Not too many people doing that in 1984!  I miss that hard labor.  It is good for the soul.  It is what we humans were meant to do.  Don't get me wrong, I work hard taking care of my family, just not quite like mucking stalls.  Someday...I will have horses again and then I will probably be wondering why I ever missed the mucking.   God Bless!

"Moose Nap" Original watercolor napping moose painting 8"x10" by Colorado Artist Gay'l Yocom

"Moose Nap"

SOLD

Happy spring!  This big lazy moose is enjoying spring.  I painted this moose when I first started playing with watercolors.  I lived in the mountains of Colorado, Grand Lake to be exact.  My house bordered the Rocky Mountain National Forest and I would have all sorts of wildlife walk through my open yard heading for the forest.  Moose, elk, dear, fox...  I miss that place!  Beautiful place to live.
We got about about 4 inches of snow here in Wellington from a nice spring snow storm yesterday.  Fort Collin, just south of us 13 miles, got more than us.  But Denver, that is a different story.  They got almost 2 feet of snow!  Today, it is bright and sunny.  Beautiful out.  It will be melting in the next couple of days.  This moisture will for sure help bring out those spring flowers.  I LOVE Colorado!

I'm back.  It has been awhile again since my last blog.  I have been in Texas visiting my best friend J.B., and her family.  We have been best friends since the 9th grade!  She is like a sister to me.  She is the most amazing woman, mother, and wife.  The strongest woman I have ever met!  She is a blessing to me, her family and to God.  A mother of five and always willing to help anyone out.  Putting her family's needs and friends needs before her own everyday.  And her hard working husband is right beside her every step of the way.  I could go on and on about how she serves her family and God everyday.  She has gone through so much in her life, past and present, and still has a smile, incredible laugh and a drive like no other.  She is truly and inspiration to all women!  And I love her dearly and thankful she is my sister.

This is a painting I did a few years ago.  I have had it in my private collection.  It reminds me of her never ending spirit to thrive!  What a beautiful family you have J.B.  God bless all of you.

SOLD

Here I am....trying to make my life more simple and it is taking more of my time to accomplish that.  Do  you know what I mean?  I have been going through old boxes and papers and giving away things and throwing out stuff I don't really need.  It's hard.  I guess it will take awhile to get to the "more simple life".  After I go through all the old stuff and filter out what I can let go of.  I'm a sentimental Pisces, that likes to keep things.  Well not anymore.  I'm tired of all the "stuff".  I can still be sentimental though...

My parents were just here visiting from Grand Junction, Colorado.  They got to spend time with the kids on their own turf.  They love to have visitors.  Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for coming down to visit with us!  I think is so important for kids to get to know their grandparents.  They had a great time!
God bless all those grandparents out there.  Thank you for taking time for your grandkids.  They love you and appreciate you!

It has been awhile.  Busy week!  This is a painting I did from an old photo of a boy and his cat on a lake somewhere.  I don't know anything about where it is or whom it is, but I just love it.  It is a black and white photo, so I had to imagine what it would look like in color.   So, that is my interpretation of the light and colors of the day.  If you look closely, you can see people in the lake on the other side of him swimming.  I love the photo.  It reminds me of going to my grandmother's cottage at Crystal Lake, Michigan in the summers.  Good memories!

Love can be messy I suppose.  Usually though, it is quite heavenly.  Love helps us through rough times.  Love can lift our spirits, and soothe our souls.  To share our love is one thing God wants us to do.
 GOD IS LOVE.
Give of yourself on this Valentine's Day.  Not necessarily by buying a bunch of gifts or chocolate.....wait....what am I saying?!  Ok, chocolate is allowed - but give of your heart also.  Like a handmade card or a poem, or both, a walk with your sweetie.  And tell them in your own words how special they are to you.
God (love) is Grand!  Happy Valentine's Day!

This little imaginary flower seems to be beaming as well.  Dancing with the other plants beside her, for sure enjoying the wonderful sun.  Wishing you a happy day with God's wonderful sunshine on your face.

Here it is February already!  My middle son's birthday is this month.   Cupcakes are one of his favorite "food" items.  Probably for most kids, big and small.  Gluten free of course, for us.  The kids and my husband and I are mostly gluten free.  My oldest son notices a big improvement with his allergy and asthma symptoms when he stays away from wheat.  My youngest are wheat sensitive also.  One great blog for Gluten free cooking is one I go to often:  www.glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com.  Check it out!

I found this quote today, and it seemed to be appropriate.

That we find a crystal or a poppy beautiful means that we are less alone, that we are more deeply inserted into existence than the course of a single life would lead us to believe.

I love lighthouse.  This is a painting I did of the lighthouse at the entrance to Boston Harbor.  From what I read it was the first one to be erected in the United States in 1716.  I have never been in one, but plan to visit one someday.  They are such majestic and noble structures.

This is one of my favorite little paintings.  It is a butterfly from my imagination.  When I was little I used to make puzzle shapes all the time and make designs with them.  I guess some things never get old.

This is an ink and watercolor painting I did last year.  I grew up with horses and they have a special place in my heart.  I think they are one of God's most beautiful creatures on earth.  Filled with power and grace.

When I cut this luscious sweet red pepper open, I thought it was a masterpiece of nature.   I just had to paint it.
It was a  nice challenge to get the detail of the seeds and the shimmer of the flesh inside.  Fun stuff!

This was a fun little bright flower I did last year that I am posting for sale.  What I love about the painting is  the real soft pale blue and greenish hues behind the flower.  Unfortunately, the scan doesn't pick-up the soft colors in the background very well.  You'll have to trust me on this one.

Also today, I wanted to thank my friend, Lauie Pace.  She helped me so much with setting up my blog.  What a wonderful, helpful person and an amazing artist!  You can find a link to her blog on my site.  Check it out!
Thanks again Laurie!  God Bless.

I'm back.  It has been a busy January.  This painting I did from a great photo taken by my oldest son Thom.  I thought it was a great perspective view.  It is amazing how things can appear so new and interesting when you look at them in a different way.  Here's to new perspectives!
